January 2019

by | Aug 2, 2019

What I LOVE about January is the fresh-startedness. Similar to the spring, EVERYTHING feels possible in January. I lay out so many personal and professional dreams every winter and see how they unfold throughout the year. The Three Letter Birds dream that I am most excited about is to send more emails. There’s so much more freedom in emailing you than there is sharing with you on social media. I can share links, give you FREE THINGS, and, FOR GOD’S SAKE, make sure that everyone is even seeing what I’m sending (I’m looking at YOU, Instagram…)

  • I want to FINALLY share a bit with you about my Enneagram Collection that I released just before my busiest-holiday-time-of-year and didn’t get the chance to properly shout from the rooftops about.
  • I want to share with you the things that I’m SUPER into every month. I LOVE knowing the little things that people are into lately- that are making their lives happier, more beautiful, more interesting, more organized, etc.
  • I want to GIVE GIVE GIVE. You all have been so good to me- so supportive, so kind, so generous- and I so badly want you to feel appreciated and loved by Three Letter Birds. Every month I’ll have a FREE download for you and am thinking of some really fun and cute things for you!
  • I’ll also pass along a different limited-time coupon for you every month, so that if there’s something you’ve had your eye in on my shop, but money’s tight, you’ll have a little help getting your hands on it.

Alright. HERE WE GO.

First things first: do you have no idea what the Enneagram is? FEAR NOT. Start HERE. You’ll be tempted to take a test. It’s a fine starting point. But the best way to sort out your type is to read through each one, ask some close friends for some feedback, and decide which one you are for yourself.

Here are some of my Favorite Enneagram resources:

A great starter book: The Path Between Us
An amazing podcast: The Enneagram Journey with Suzanne Stabile
Music + another amazing podcast: Sleeping at Last songs and podcast for each type
Books to go more in depth: Wisdom of the Enneagram, The Sacred Enneagram
Instagram account to follow: @sallysenneagramstop
Website with tons of helpful info: www.enneagraminstitute.com

The goal for my Enneagram Collection was to make pieces for each type that celebrates the best of them. I am certainly in for poking fun at our quirks and darker moments, but I felt like there was a need for reminding each type why they’re so valuable to the rest of us. My other big goal for the collection was to write my own copy for my cards. I wanted to strike the right balance of positivity and fun and seriousness and meaning and it was CHALLENGING, but super worth it. I did a lot of planning, research, sketching, and revising and it got DAUNTING at points, but I’m so happy with how they turned out and with the response that they’ve gotten so far. I felt like the greeting cards were pieces that you’d buy for ANOTHER type, like not necessarily something you’d buy for yourself (although if you did, that’s totally great too! Yay you for appreciating yourself!); ENTER: buttons. I added the buttons to the collection because they felt like a piece that you could buy for YOURSELF. The buttons all include elements directly from the cards and have descriptive words written around the edges. Again, I wanted to keep them all positive and celebrate the best in each type. If you read them from top left to right and then bottom left to right, the last word you should read in the bottom right is the word that each type strives to be, but doesn’t believe that they are. I love that sneaky little bit.

I have so much more to say about it and am hosting an Instagram Live where I’ll talk more in depth about the creative process, about each individual type’s card and button, and answer any questions you may have for me about the collection. That will happen on Wednesday, January 30 2019, 7 pm CST (NEXT Wednesday!), so if you want to watch, but aren’t already following me on Instagram, head over there and make sure you’re following @threeletterbirds. If you can’t watch live, hopefully I’ll figure out how to save it to my highlights by then so you can watch it later.

Here are some of my favorite things this January! I am so into this Magnolia Table cookbook. Trying new recipes from it has gotten me out of my winter slump several times already; my personal faves are the 1900 Pimiento Cheese and the Overnight French Toast. You also may have noticed me wearing this Virginie Millefiori Warm Rainbow Necklace in all of my Instagram photos. It’s so warm and cheery and makes me feel happy during these gray days. Plus, I know the ladies who run this business and they are the BEST and the CUTEST.

I just bought these Felt Hexagon Tiles a few days ago as a cute alternative to a cork board to put all of my pins on and I’M OBSESSED. They stick right to the wall and there are a bunch of color choices! And my total favorite candle to burn on cold winter days- Edgewater Candles’ Tobacco Tonka. It does NOT smell like the smoking section, but smells like Christmas trees and a crackling fire. It’s AMAZING and SO comforting. I know these guys too and I can say with CERTAINTY that they are the nicest people on the entire planet. Also, aren’t their labels SO CUTE?!

(I designed them :))
